FAQ:
Q. One day refinishing? I've never heard of that.
A. One day refinishing, known as restoration, is a process that very few floor contractors perform. The profit is just too small for most contractors, but the value to the homeowner is huge.
Q. What is the process?
A. The existing finish is treated to prepare for the application of the new floor finish. Then, the new finish is professionally applied, using the proper tools, techniques, and floor grade polyurethane finishes.
Q. What are the advantages of the restoration process over a full refinishing?
A. The restoration process is superior for many homeowners in three ways: First, the process only takes one day instead of the week that a full refinish job takes. Second, there is no dust clean-up, as with a full refinish. Third, the cost is only 25% of the cost of a full refinish. In most cases, the floor can be greatly improved for only 25% of the cost of a full refinish.
Q. What are the disadvantages of the restoration process, or are there any cases in which it will not work?
A. In terms of strength and durability, there are no disadvantages. The restoration is just as hard as a full refinish because the exact same floor finish is used. The restoration process will not work where they are worn, scratched or damaged to the extreme, or if you have waxed your floors over the years.
Q. How do I know whether my floor will be a good candidate for the restoration process?
A. Often, we can determine if restoration will work over the phone. If we cannot make the decision over the phone, we can inspect the floor in person.
Q. Is there a charge for this estimate?
A. No, we have never charged for estimates. Normally, if we do the inspection in person, we are prepared to do the restoration process in the same trip, so a second scheduling is not necessary.
Q. If my floors need a full refinish, can you do this instead?
A. Yes. We have refinished floors for over 20 years. Also, we are highly experienced in the installation of new floors, as well as the installation and repair of staircases. At present, though, we have our hands full with the restoration process. Most people who hear about the restoration process would rather have it than a full refinish.
Summary: In most cases the restoration process for hardwood floors works to give the homeowner an improved floor look without all of the inconveniences of moving out for a full week, without the heavy dust clean-up, and without the high cost of a full refinish. Often when our customers see how easily and inexpensively that they can restore their worn floors, they say, "Wow, I wish I had known about this process in my other homes when I had them fully refinished. I would have done a restoration instead." Give us a call today. You will be amazed at how well you can restore your floors for so little money.
